AN ALLEGED member of the communist terrorist group New People’s Army was killed in an encounter with government forces in North Cotabato on Saturday, October 24, 2020.

Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan, Western Mindanao Command commander, said troops from the 62nd Division Reconnaisance Company under the 602nd Infantry Brigade figured in a 20-minute firefight with around 12 fully armed communist terrorist group members in Sitio Rodson, Barangay Arakan in Matalam at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

“Based on the initial report submitted by Brig. Gen. Capulong, the exchange of fires resulted in the death of one CTG member and the recovery of one M16A1 rifle, three magazines, assorted ammunition, two cellular phones, and propaganda materials,” Vinluan said in a statement.

He said the rebels fled in different directions after the firefight. There was no casualty on the government side.

Vinluan said troops have continued to scour the area for insurgents. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
