PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has declared August 12, Monday, as a regular holiday, in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on Thursday morning, August 8, confirmed that the President has signed Proclamation 789.

Malacañang has yet to make public copy of the presidential proclamation.

August 12 has been declared as regular holiday upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

Republic Act 9849 states that Eid’l Adha, one of the Islam’s two major feasts along with Eid’l Fitr, shall be celebrated as regular holiday.

Eid’l Adha is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world and is considered holier than Eid'l Fitr.

The Islamic festival commemorates the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God's command. (SunStar Philippines)
