SENATOR-elect Christopher "Bong" Go has vowed to provide a relocation site for victims of the fire that hit JP Rizal St. in Quezon City.

The fire razed several houses on JP Rizal St. on June 9, leaving around 120 families homeless. The affected families are currently seeking refuge at the Murphy Public Market on 15th Avenue in Quezon City.

Go, during his visit to the affected families Monday, June 24, assured the fire victims that he, together with the National Housing Authority, will help address their housing needs.

“Nandito po ang National Housing Authority para mag-interview sa inyo kung sino ang gustong mag-avail ng murang pabahay mula sa gobyerno. Sa inyo na po iyon (The National Housing Authority personnel are here to interview you and find out who among you wants to avail the government's housing program),” he said.

“Hindi ko po matiis na nakaupo lang sa opisina. Gusto ko aksyon na ora mismo at mabigyan agad ng solusyon ang inyong hinaing. Bababa po ako sa inyo. Kahit saang sulok ng Pilipinas ay papasukin ko po para marinig at mabigyan kayo ng tulong,” he said.

He also assured that the fire victims will be given aid once he starts his term in the Senate.

Go also called on various government agencies to provide supplemental relief assistance to the affected community.

“Pinakiusapan rin po natin ‘yung mga kasamahan ko sa gobyerno katulad ng Department of Social Welfare and Development, Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor, Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, at Department of Health upang magbigay ng tulong sa inyo,” he added.

Go also promised to provide financial assistance to victims who want to return to their respective provinces, as well as buy school supplies and uniforms for students.

He also offered medical assistance through the Malasakit Center. (Ryniel Berlanga/SunStar Philippines)
