ALTHOUGH some laboratories failed to submit their testing output over the weekend, the Department of Health (DOH) still recorded over 7,000 new coronavirus infections on Monday, May 3, 2021.

In its case bulletin, the DOH listed 7,255 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the first daily count to fall below 8,000 in five days.

“Ang mababang bilang ng kaso ngayong araw ay dulot ng hindi pagsumite ng mga laboratoryo ng datos noong Sabado, May 1, 2021,” DOH stated.

The new infections raised the cumulative case count to 1,062,225 as of May 3.

Of these, 69,466 or 6.5 percent were active cases.

There were 94 additional mortalities, bringing the death toll from Covid-19 to 17,525. The case fatality rate remained at 1.65 percent,

There were also 9,214 recoveries under the time-based tagging methodology, under which DOH declares as recoveries those mild and asymptomatic cases without symptoms for at least 10 consecutive days.

Total recoveries as of May 3 were 975,234, or 91.8 percent of the cumulative count.

Testing output was only 44,107 on May 1, of which 15.7 percent yielded positive results for Sars-Covi-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
