AFTER reporting a daily average of more than 100 Covid-19 deaths in the last seven days, the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, July 5, 2021, recorded less than 50 deaths, the lowest in more than one month.

In its case bulletin, the DOH listed 43 additional deaths from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), 5,392 new infections and 6,477 new recoveries.

The additional deaths, which included 20 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries but were found to have died, were the lowest since the 36 deaths reported on May 25, 2021.

These raised the Covid-19 death toll nationwide to 25,192. The case fatality rate remained at 1.75 percent.

The new cases, which were lower than the daily tally in the last four days, brought the total case count to 1,441,746. Fifteen duplicates, including nine recoveries, were removed from the count.

Of the total, 51,594 were active cases in hospitals and isolation facilities.

Ten laboratories failed to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on July 3. These 10 laboratories accounted for 0.7 percent of the samples tested in the last 14 days and 1.4 percent of the positive results.

A total of 47,614 samples were tested for Sars-CoV-2 on July 3, of which 11.3 percent yielded positive results.

Meanwhile, the new recoveries brought the total to 1,364,960, which constitute 94.7 percent of the total case count. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
