THE Department of Health (DOH) reported no mortality from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Thursday, July 9, 2020, but listed more confirmed cases of infection.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the total number of cases in the country increased to 51,754, of which 37,627 are active cases.

Of the total, 1,395 cases -- 1,184 fresh cases and 211 late cases -- were validated by the Epidemiology Bureau Thursday.

Fresh cases refer to test results that were released in the last three days while late cases are those that came out at least four days ago but were validated only in the last 24 hours.

These fresh cases were based on the daily accomplishment reports submitted by 62 out of 74 operational diagnostic laboratories.

Vergeire also said 225 more patients have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 12,813.

The death toll remained at 1,314 as of Thursday.

Meanwhile, Vergeire said the number of healthcare workers who contracted the disease is declining.

As of July 7, only 7.45 percent of the total confirmed cases involved healthcare workers. This is lesser than the 9.25 percent on June 29 and 19.96 percent on April 30. (MVI/SunStar Philippines)
