Jose Calida named next COA chairman

PRESIDENT-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed outgoing Solicitor General Jose Calida as chairman of the Commission on Audit (COA) under his administration, designated press secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles announced Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

Angeles said Philippine National Bank (PNB) president and chief executive officer Jose Arnulfo “Wick” Veloso was appointed as the general manager of the Government Service Insurance System.

Calida has served as an undersecretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ) from 2001 to 2004.

He was an executive director of the Dangerous Drugs Board in 2004 under the administration of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

In 2016, Calida was the one who pushed for the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City, saying he deserves to be buried at the hero's cemetery for being a former president of the republic, a war veteran, and a medal of valor awardee.

Veloso, on the other hand, was the first Filipino CEO of HSBC Philippines. He was with the company from 1994 to 2017.
