M6.1 quake strikes Mindanao anew

ANOTHER earthquake with a magnitude 6.1 hit some parts of Mindanao at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake, tectonic in origin and with a depth of 80 kilometers, was centered near Governor Generoso town in Davao Oriental.

The quake was felt at Intensity 5 in Mati City

Instrumental Intensities were also felt in Alabel, Sarangani (Intensity 4); General Santos City, Kiamba, Sarangani (Intensity 3); and Bislig City (Intensity 1).

On Friday, May 31, Governor Generoso town also experienced a magnitude 6.2 earthquake.

Phivolcs said damage was not expected although aftershocks may occur. (SunStar Philippines)
