Over 2,000 new infections added to coronavirus cases

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday, October 1, 2020, reported 2,415 new cases of coronavirus infection, bringing the total case count to 314,079.

The DOH also announced 771 recoveries, increasing the total recoveries to 254,223.

There were an additional 59 mortalities, raising the death toll from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 5,562.

Of the 59 new deaths, 37 occurred in September, 10 in August, nine in July, one in June and two in April.

The deaths were from the National Capital Region (26), Central Visayas (7), Western Visayas (6), Ilocos (5), Zamboanga Peninsula (4), Northern Mindanao (3), Calabarzon (3), Bicol (2), Caraga (2), and Central Luzon (1).

DOH said 17 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified to deaths after final validation.

There were 30 duplicates that were removed from the total case count.

Of the total case count, 54,294 remained active cases as of October 1.

Among the new cases were 2,010 that occurred within the recent 14 days from September 18 to October 1.

The highest number of new cases were 930 from NCR, 238 from Cavite, 128 from Rizal, 123 from Laguna and 103 from Negros Occidental. (Marites Villamor-Ilano/SunStar Philippines)
