THE Philippines received 2,000 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines from the government of Brunei on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

The vaccines arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 around 2 p.m. Wednesday, said the National Task Force Against Covid-19 (NTF) in a press release.

The shipment was welcomed by NTF medical consultant Dr. Ma. Paz Corrales, Brunei Ambassador Johariah Wahab, Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Christopher Montero, and Department of Health Director Dr. Joel Buenaventura.

NTF special adviser Dr. Teodoro Herbosa said the doses have been allocated for the inoculation of the general population.

Herbosa expressed his gratitude to the government of Brunei on behalf of the Philippines for the vaccine donation.

Aside from Brunei, countries such as the United States, China, and Japan are expected to continue to donate vaccines to help the Philippines fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

As of October 20, a total of 91,548,620 Covid-19 vaccine doses from various manufacturers have arrived in the Philippines. (LMY/PR)
