PNP awaits guidance on Angkas riders apprehension

Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has yet to receive proper guidance from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on the possible apprehension of Angkas riders and the impounding of their motorcycles.

“Wala pa namang official request (ang) LTFRB. We first need to coordinate with LTFRB on what grounds, fines and other penalties (to impose) as LTFRB is the lead agency in (the) franchise of Angkas,” PNP-Highway Patrol Group Director Chief Superintendent Roberto Fajardo said.

On Wednesday, December 12, the Supreme Court (SC) issued a temporary restraining order against a Mandaluyong court ruling that prevents the government from meddling in the operation of the motorcycle-ride sharing company.

Welcoming the order of the SC, the LTFRB and the Department of Transportation said the apprehension of Angkas riders may again be implemented.

The LTFRB will issue a resolution expected within the day (December 13) to start the apprehension of the Angkas riders. (SunStar Philippines)
