Senate passes estate tax amnesty extension bill on final reading

THE Senate unanimously approved on Monday, May 29, 2023, on third and final reading a measure seeking the extension of the availment of estate tax amnesty until June 2025.

With no negative votes and abstentions, the Senate approved Senate Bill No. 2219, which also expands the coverage of the tax amnesty to the heirs of those who died on or before May 31, 2022.

Applicants may file for estate tax amnesty until June 14, 2025, either electronically or manually. Installment payment is allowed within two years from the original due date, without civil penalty and interest.

The measure was sponsored by Senate Committee on Ways and Means chairman Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.
