Usman left 126 dead, 26 missing

ONE Hundred twenty six people were recorded dead, while 26 others are still missing, due to the onslaught of Tropical Depression Usman, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday, January 6.

In its situational report, the NDRRMC said 75 persons have also been left injured by Usman.

The NDRRMC, however, said eight of the 126 fatalities and 42 of the injured people are confirmed while the rest are still subject for validation and confirmation.

The casualties of Tropical Depression Usman were from the Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas, areas hardly hit by the weather disturbance.

The report also said a total of 13,202 families or 57,945 persons have been served inside evacuation centers while 19,825 families or 94,876 persons were catered outside evacuation centers.

The agency also said Usman damaged nearly P950 million of agriculture products and over P3 billion worth in infrastructures in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Eastern Visayas region.

It added that 1,617 houses were totally damaged while 7,937 others were partially destroyed.

The NDRRMC said of the 215 flooded areas, 135 were already cleared.

Usman is a low pressure area turned-tropical depression that brought continuous rain in the country resulting to landlsides that caused the death in most of the Usman fatalities. (SunStar Philippines)
