THE Dumaguete City Government is bent on implementing and establishing a “Discipline Zone” from the city boundary with Sibulan town up to the downtown area of the capital.

A dry run was conducted on December 19 by a composite team of the city police headed by Superintendent Jonathan Pineda, the traffic management office (TMO) headed by Danny Atillo of the enforcement unit, Task Force Dumaguete, the human resource office, and the City Engineer’s Office, among others.

The Discipline Zone will be implemented to clear the sidewalks, pavements, and road shoulders from any obstructions.

During the dry run and information dissemination, parked vehicles along the highways were ordered removed, “ukay-ukay” (used clothing) store operators were reminded of prohibitions against parking their delivery trucks on the roadside of the national highway, and vulcanizing shops were told not to utilize the sidewalks and paved canals for their activity, Atillo said.

Pineda, in an interview, said they are merely implementing the mandates of the Department of Interior and Local Government so that in January 2018, they could issue citation tickets and temporary operators' permits for vehicles to violators.
