TWO men were killed while four others were wounded in the latest encounter between the military and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Maguindanao province, police reported Sunday.

Police said at least 20 members of the MILF's 105th Base Command led by a certain Commander Maestro Fermin attacked a detachment of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) in Barangay Kulambugan, Sultan Sabarongis around 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Government troops fended off the attack, which lead to a 30-minute exchange of gunfire.

The rebels retreated and left two dead comrades at the scene upon the arrival of reinforcement troops of the military.

Four Cafgu men under former Sultan Sabarongis vice mayor Sukarno Badal were wounded in the gunbattle.

Personal grudge is believed to be behind the motive of Felmin's attack.

Authorities recovered high-powered firearms and ammunition from the dead MILF men. (Edgardo Fuerzas)
