5 bets vie for Iloilo police chief post

Sunnexdesk

ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog will choose from a list of five candidates to be the next chief of the Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo).

The list was submitted last week by Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Chief Samuel Pagdilao. The candidates, however, still have to wait for the decision of Mabilog, who is now in Yokohama, Japan attending an international conference on the environment and climate change facilitated by CityNet.

City Administrator Norlito Bautista said the list of candidates for the Icpo director post is composed of five full-fledged senior superintendents of the PNP or Police Commissioned Officers determined by the Senior Officers Placement and Promotion board.

The candidates are Senior Superintendents Dennis Basngi, Marietto Valerio, Ricardo de la Paz, Orlando Ualat, and Manuel Cubillo.

Basngi is Icpo's officer-in-charge after taking over the position left by Senior Superintendent Melvin Mongcal, who opted to be assigned in the national headquarters before the May 2010 polls.

If chosen by the city mayor, the new Icpo director will have to serve the police office for two years unless relieved for a cause. (Lydia C. Pendon)
