DAVAO Writers Guild, in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and University of the Philippines Mindanao, is holding the five-day second Davao Writers Workshop starting on May 3 at Lispher Inn in Matina, Davao City.

Panelists include well-known and prizewinning writers Macario Tiu, Timothy Montes, and Ricardo de Ungria. Also in the panel are Genevieve Quintero, Satur Apoyon, and guest Anthony Tan from MSU-IIT.

The fellows include Ella Ismael, Freeda Ko, Freidreich Layno, Erika Navaja, Arvin Ortiz, James Pascual, Seneca Pellano, and Reymond Pepito, all from Davao. The fellows from out-of-town are Gino Dolorzo and Jayson Parba from Cagayan de Oro, Hiyasmin Espejo from General Santos, and Iryne Kaamino from Ozamis City.

They submitted fiction, poems, essays, and plays in English and Cebuano, which will be subjected to the critical eyes and scrutiny of the panelists throughout the week.

According to workshop director Jhoanna Lynn Cruz, the sessions are open to the public. Anyone who is interested in learning the basics of creative writing can sit in. Each day's sessions are opened with a craft lecture by a panelist at 9 a.m., with an open forum.

In particular, the sessions Tuesday are devoted to discussion of poetry in Cebuano, with a lecture by Satur Apoyon.

The workshop will culminate on May 7 with a poetry reading and performances by the fellows at 7:30 p.m. Highlighting the event is the launching of the much-awaited reprint of Davao Harvest 1, the first anthology of Davao literature edited by Tita Lacambra-Ayala and the late Alfredo Salanga.
