SIX men were arrested last Thursday for illegal fishing in the waters off the villages of Abugon and Candaguit in Sibonga.

A joint team of police and municipal fishery personnel caught Revencio Canadalla Dacillo, 54; Reynaldo Despe Anacio, 58; Carlos Despe Dacillo, 54; Francisco Sabalo Aque, 30; Cosme Detaleo Vianez, 61; and Leonilo Cano Lacutab, 24.

The suspects were arrested around 11 p.m. last Wednesday after they failed to present permits. Only residents of Sibonga are allowed to fish in their municipal waters.

Authorities caught them using air compressor, which is a violation under Republic Act 8550, or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines.

The Dacillos are from Barangay Bolinawan, Carcar City. Aque and and Vianez are residents of San Fernando town, while Lacutab hails from Pinamungajan.

Seized from the fishermen were six kilos of fish, two pump boats, fishing net, air compressor and other fishing equipment. (KAL)
