Ateneo, Agro hurdle rivals

THE Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights and Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors hacked out wins Tuesday in the Mayor Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte Kadayawan Collegiate Basketball Tournament at the newly-refurbished Davao City Recreation Center.

The Blue Knights, coached by Cholo Elegino, trounced Emar, 89-69, in their Group A clash. Blue Knights slotman Conrad Fernando drilled in 27 points and was supported by Ronnel Sepe, who had 22.

The Rizal Memorial College (RMC) Bulldogs, meanwhile, edged Mats College of Technology, 83-82.

Michael Angalan poured in 19 points to lead scoring for the Bulldogs. Karlo Quibel topscored for Mats with 21.

In Group B, the Sailors sank Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings, 74-71, as Clemente Ruiz, Ericson Galacgac and John Andre s scored 14 points each.

Reynaldo Casanillo and Jumabon Bulac canned in 26 and 18 points for the Sailors, respectively.

Games today pit Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders against the Sailors at 1 p.m., the Bulldogs against Emar at 2:30 p.m., Kings against University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats at 4 p.m. and the Blue Knights facing Mats at 5:30 p.m.

The top two teams in each bracket after the group stage round robin will advance to the crossover semifinals enroute to the titular showdown.

The champion will receive a cash prize of P15,000, second P10,000, third P5,000 and fourth P3,000.

The tournament is sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) regional director Regino "Boy" Cua and sponsored by the city government of Davao.
