Bacolod hospital facing complaint for pregnant woman's death

John Roger "Darlah" Orquiza

THE Task Force Crusaders will file a complaint against the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City for alleged negligence of its staff leading to the death of a woman pregnant with twins.

John Chiong, deputy commander of Task Force Crusader, said he will submit the complaint of the family of Mary Joy Geronca, 23, to Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial Monday.

Jose Cesar Penario, father of Geronca, said they brought her daughter to CLMMRH on January 16 and she died the following day.

His daughter was having an eclampsia, a condition where there is a sudden, sharp rise in blood pressure, while on labor, he said.

He added that the doctors did not inform them that the twin babies were already dead, or else they could have decided to save his daughter's life instead.

Penario said there were 11 nurses and other hospital staff who were attending to her daughter, but they failed to tell them that the babies were already dead.

Moreover, Chiong said they will facilitate the complaint, which they found to be valid.
