BACOLOD City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya clarified yesterday that the proposed evacuation center at Abada-Escay Relocation Site, Barangay Vista Alegre is not a regional evacuation center.

He said the evacuation center is intended only for residents of Bacolod residents especially those affected by typhoon and fire, but if there’s a calamity or emergency from nearby cities or municipalities the area is also open to accommodate them.

The National Government allotted P36 million for the multi-storey evacuation center while the City Government is required to provide a 3,000-square meter area for the facility.

Gasataya said Bacolod will be the first beneficiary of an evacuation center projects in Western Visayas.

He added that the City Council already approved a resolution supporting the proposed evacuation center.

The Department of Public Works and Highways will conduct the bidding soon.
