EMPLOYEES of One Network Bank (ONB)-Kabasalan Branch lost P6 million in a highway robbery in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Wednesday.

Superintendent Rogelio Alabata, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday in the village of Upper Pangi, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Alabata said ONB-Kabasalan manager Fritz Carnice, accompanied by other employees, left the branch office around 11:45 a.m. aboard the bank vehicle to transfer the P6 million cash to the Development Bank of the Philippines in Ipil town.

Alabata said a slow-moving sports utility vehicle (SUV), with plate number TOY-920, suddenly stopped ahead of the bank vehicle.

When the bank vehicle driver, identified as Joel Calumba, slowed down while negotiating an uphill road, four gunmen disembarked from the SUV and declared the heist.

The suspects hit and disarmed the bank security guard and then carted away P6 million cash.

The suspects fled towards downtown Ipil after the incident.

Alabata said investigation is ongoing.
