PANIC broke out at Barangay Sta. Cruz, Tagoloan town in Misamis Oriental when a woman literally lied down at the center of the highway in an attempt to commit suicide Friday morning.
The woman was identified only as Marissa, estimated to be about 30 years old and was wearing white pants and t-shirt.
Barangay captain Rene Endrano of Sta. Cruz village said they tried to get Marissa out of the highway but she resisted.
He said Marissa stayed firm at the middle of the road while vehicles tried to evade her.
Endrano said Marissa had a boyfriend named Jojo, who left her to marry another girl. But the two met again after 15 years and had a second relationship.
He said unfortunately, the guy left her again Friday, pushing Marissa to commit suicide.
Endrano said they cannot determine if Marissa suffered mental illness. (SVB)
