Capitol hosts multi-hazard summit

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Provincial Government of Pampanga Wednesday, July 12, hosted a multi-hazard summit at the Kingsburough Convention Center here that aimed to address hazard concerns not just for the rainy season but also other possible calamities.

The event was attended by local officials from towns and villages. The summit included talks from disaster risk reduction management focal persons as well as from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

The summit came in time for preparations for the ongoing monsoon season. Governor Lilia Pineda earlier said that Pampanga is always trying to update its disaster preparedness and preposition enough disaster response resources as soon as possible.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) awarded the Pampanga Provincial Government as the National Gawad Kalasag (GK) award for effective leadership in disaster risk reduction and management program.

The Pampanga Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) ranked a close second to Isabela PDRRMC, which tilted the nation-wide competition to its favor by having a well-equipped monitoring and operations command center.

The province earned the national award after it topped the GK search in Central Luzon for three straight years and was entered into the GK regional hall of fame in 2016.
