THE Cebu Taekwondo Team aims for another impressive finish in the annual Carlos Palanca Jr. Taekwondo Championships on Feb. 5 at the Cuneta Astrodome.

“Our sparring team is formidable as they have proven in past tournaments, while our poomsae is up to the challenge,” Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) Region 7 chairman Tony del Prado told SunStar Cebu.

Cebu finished with an impressive 22 medal haul from six gold medals, six silver medals and 10 bronze medals in last year’s tournament.

Last year’s team was led by Nica Garces, Dineson Cañeda and Royda Ranile in the sparring competition. Nichole Maurin, Robiegayle Navales, Aidaine Laxa, Alyssa Llenes, Nohea dela Fuente and Shanen Peran led the team in winning gold medals in the poomsae event.

The other members of last year’s team were Zozen Prajes, Neil Seares and Mayn Coran.

The Carlos Palanca Jr. Taekwondo Championships serves as proving ground for aspiring jins that want to earn a spot in the Philippine National Taekwondo team.
