HOMICIDE charges have been filed against a member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for shooting to death a man inside an establishment in Calinan, last year.

Charged for the death of Marcelo Ambit Maladi was PFC Romel Perida of the 10th Division Training Unit in Malagos, Baguio District and a resident of Barangay Colongulo in Surallah, South Cotabato.

Prosecutor Carlos Castaños recommended the filing of charges based on the accounts of the witness, Girlie Sanchez Diosimito, 19, of Astorga proper in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

In an affidavit, she said that at around 3:45 p.m. on July 8, 2009, she was inside the establishment where she was working as a waitress.

She said she seated beside Perida after the latter was introduced to her by her cousins.

She claimed that after a while, Perida was approached by Maladi and had an altercation. She said Maladi attempted to smash Perida with a beer bottle, which prompted the latter to draw his firearm and shoot the victim in close range.

Castaños recommended a bailbond of P40,000 for the respondent's temporary liberty.
