THE city's Anti-Smoking Task Force (ASTF) chair, Dr. Domilyn Villariez presented Monday the fourth award received by the city for its strict implementation of an anti-smoking law.

The Department of Health (DOH) Red Orchid Award 2010 was awarded to five local government units in the country with the Davao City as the only city receiving the award.

"This is the first national award received by the City Government, it's very special because it's from the Department of Health and we were the only city in the country awarded this. The others which received the award were municipalities. The city was recognized as 100 percent tobacco-free," Villariez said Monday.

The ASTF is gearing for 100 percent smoke-free establishments.

"This August we are going to have our workshop wherein we would craft our resolution following the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control to which we are member of. Actually, prepared na yung mapapaloob sa resolution we just have to talk it out with the stakeholders," Villareiz said.

"After crafting a resolution we would have the approval of City Mayor Sara Duterte and the City Legal Office before we can endorse it to Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte," she added. (JCZ)
