ILOILO City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas led the groundbreaking Monday for the P368 million new City Hall building at its old site on Plaza Libertad.

Eric Cruz of the FF Cruz Freyssinet, the contractor of multimillion government building, said his company aims to finish the construction phase in 12 months.

Architect William Coscolluela said the neo-classic design of the new building was based on four of Iloilo’s heritage buildings such as Iloilo Customs House, University of the Philippines, Masonic Temple and the old City Hall building.

The seven-storey government building will have a roof deck for social activities.

The City Government secured a P455 million loan to fund the project.
