KIANGAN, Ifugao – The Baguio secondary basketball squad is all set to retain the title of this year’s edition of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association here.

The team is almost on its final stages of preparation when action started February 7. The Baguio dribblers are raring to go against a tough home squad Ifugao. The team also expects rabid opposition from Abra, and Apayao.

“We’re 90 percent aware of the climate and the team is still making adjustments,” secondary boys basketball head coach Dionisio Terceno Sr. said.

The team is composed of nine players from the University of Baguio, two from the Baguio City National High School and one from the University of Cordilleras.

Carlo Siobal is expected to carry the torch for the Baguio five and is set to draw support from Gerard Banta, Leo Carbonell, Ian Sena, Ian Bernal, Karl Galindez, Cedric Tolentino, Jonathan Valdez, Jervie Calibo, Jon Marquez, Jomar Mejia and Patrick Parallag.

“What we must avoid is a nervous breakdown and get into the focus,” added Tercero.

Tercero expects shooters like Bernal, Siobal, Calibo and Marquez to be on top of their game, it would be easy for them to get past their opponents in the weeklong competition with team captain Mejia running the shaded lane for the Baguio squad.
