Comelec to bets: Spare the schools (2:56 p.m.)

MANILA -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reminded national candidates to observe campaign regulations and to post their materials in common poster areas only.

“They should spare the schools,” Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said as some bets have posted campaign paraphernalia in educational institutions holding graduation rites.

The Department of Education (DepEd) and the poll body has earlier called on the candidates to honor the graduation as an educational event and not to use this as a venue for campaigning.

“Then DepEd chief Jesli Lapus already made this call to the schools...during graduation rites you want the focus the attention on the graduates because its their special day,” said Larrazabal.

Schools are either private residences or common poster areas and therefore should not be wallpapered by posters and streamers. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
