Councilor pushes People’s Park facelift

THE historic Malcolm Square now called People’s Park should live up to its name, a Baguio City councilor said.

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda said People’s Park should be rehabilitated and should be hazard-free and truly people-friendly.

A regular venue for various activities, the park is now deteriorated due to wear and tear, Tabanda said.

Malcolm Square was named after Justice George Malcolm, justice of the Supreme Court in 1917.

With some installations at the park already damaged, Tabanda said, the City Government should keep in mind its responsibility of protecting the public from being injured in the area.

Tabanda added: “the City Government is socially responsible for the general welfare of its constituency and endeavors to provide amenities for the exercise of their rights and liberties, as enumerated in the local government code.”

“People’s Park stood witness to various upheavals and events and as a result, has suffered substantial physical deterioration because of human abuse and natural wear and tear,” Tabanda ended. (Rimaliza Opiña)
