Councilor supports conversion of CHMSC into state university

BACOLOD City Councilor Renecito Novero expressed support for the conversion of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) into a state university.

Novero, chairperson of committee on education, said Wednesday, De3cember 13, the move of Representative Greg Gasataya can do a lot of good.

Gasataya, vice chairperson of the House committee on higher technical education, said he is studying the conversion of CHMSC into a state university.

CHMSC is a public, state-owned college, with main campus in Talisay City, Negros Occidental. It has also campuses in Alijis and Fortune Towne in Bacolod City.

Novero said the conversion the school can provide more facilities, quality education, and assistance so that the standard for the university will be complied with.

“I am in favor of this, especially as long as it will be beneficial to the students,” he said.

Gasataya had earlier said that they are preparing the draft bill to convert for the conversion.

He said the said state college only needs to comply with some requirements like the number of courses offered, number of teachers with masteral degrees, infrastructure, among others.

Gasataya said he will discuss the plan with Representative Alfredo Benitez because the main campus of CHMSC is under the Third District.
