Davao del Norte sheriff shot dead

DAVAO DEL NORTE -- A Sheriff was shot dead by two unidentified men at Purok Caimito in Barangay Datu Abdul Dadia, Panabo City on Wednesday afternoon, August 3.

Police identified the victim as Jonathan Mariano Fajardo, 56, of Ma-a in Davao City and worked as a sheriff under the Office of the Clerk at Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Panabo City.

Davao del Norte Provincial Police Office (DNPPO) report showed that the incident happened along Provincial Road at Purok Caimito around 3:45 p.m.

According to witnesses, the victim was on board a single Honda TMX motorcycle, owned and driven by a certain Renante Davao Truya.

When the victim and his driver reached the area, the suspects also on board a motorcycle overtook them and fired at the victim twice.

Police said the victim succumbed to two gunshot wounds in his left ear and left upper jaw, while the suspects fled to unknown direction.

The cadaver of the victim was brought to Villa Funeral Parlor.

Davao Police Regional Office spokesperson Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna said the police has yet to determine if the incident has something to do with his job. (ICT)
