THE Apo Golf and Country Club will play host to the first Davao National Pro-Am golf tournament with P1 million at stake on September 1 to 3.

Presented by Samsung and Emcor, the winning pro bags P172,000 while the amateur partner will receive P20,000 worth of merchandise in the event, which marks the first involvement of Samsung in the pro ranks.

Pros of the top 30 teams will win cash prizes but only the amateurs of the top three placers will be awarded prizes.

Samsung has been supporting local golf through its series of amateur tournaments - the Samsung Amateur Tour, the Samsung Interscholastic Golf Championships and the Samsung Philippines where the country’s best golfers see action.

Organizers said they expect the participation of some of the country’s elite cast, including members of the ICTSI amateur stables led by national players Mhark Fernando, Jhonnel Ababa, and reigning national champion Clyde Mondilla.

The project was initiated by Jimmy del Rosario, golfing chairman of Emcor, in his desire to help local pros and provide a competition for clients of Emcor. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
