ONE of the inmates who escaped from the Marawi City jail at the start of the crisis in the city has turned himself in, police said Wednesday.

Jaber Macabago Lao surrendered to Lumbatan town Mayor Allan Lao, said Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao police director Reuben Theodore Sindac.

The escapee was brought to Lanao del Sur police provincial office and will be turned over to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Marawi City for proper custody.

Members of the Islamic State-inspired Maute terror group laid siege in Marawi City on May 23 and freed 107 inmates detained at the Marawi City Jail and the Malabang District Jail.
