Father's Day trivia

John Leo Algo

FATHER'S Day is one of the special occasions in the year wherein we recognize our dads. Here is a brief yet interesting history of one of the most loved occasions created.

When we say Father's Day, we would think that a man came up with it. It was actually started by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd in Spokane, Washington, USA during the early 1900s.

Father's Day was first celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, commerated specifically in the state of Washington.

But no, the first celebration was not well-received by the general public in its early years. In fact, the first time it was celebrated it was only a state-wide celebration. It was decades after before the it took off.

It was in 1972, when US President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance of Father's Day, every 3rd Sunday of each year.

Then, the rest was history.

Since then, we can say that the Father's Day celebration has become one the most popular celebrations. Many establishments roll out different promos while families get together to honor fathers.

In the Philippines, we celebrate Father's Day also every 3rd Sunday of June.

Though, Father's Day is a special occasion, let us remember to not only recognize the love and the care our father gave us but also show our fathers how much we love them and recognize their awesomeness every day.
