The Bureau of Fire Protection-Negros Island Region (BFP-NIR) received assistance from the Negros Occidental provincial government for the accommodation of the Firefighters for Christ volunteers who conducted a six-day training in Bacolod City.

The US-based group trained Negrense firefighters on safe firefighting and water rescue for six days until Friday.

Superintendent Rodolfo Denaga, fire marshal of BFP-Bacolod, said Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. approved the amount of P500,000 for the six-day accommodation of the visiting firefighters.

The amount was used for the billeting and food of the instructors and participants.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the good governor for the fund he allocated to make this training possible,” Denaga added.

A total of 82 firemen in NIR graduated yesterday after they completed their training with the firefighters from the US.

The American firefighters also turned over P1 million worth of equipment which include power saw tools for vehicle extrication and tools for water rescue and wildfire management to the BFP-NIR.*
