Former school dropouts get second chance at education

Sunnexdesk

CLOSE to 250 out-of-school youths (OSYs) in Mountain Province have been given the chance to pursue their schooling through the Department of Education’s Alternative Learning System.

Division ALS Supervisor Susan Aminor said 233 OSYs who passed DepEd’s

Accreditation and Equivalency test last December were high-school dropouts, and six had quit elementary. A total of 841 OSYs took the exams.

The passers received a certification comparable to an elementary or high school diploma.

Aminor said the 78 passers in the municipalities of Bauko, Natonin and Paracelis had graduated earlier this month.

The high school passers can move on to college or apply for a job that requires only a high school diploma.

The test measures the competencies of those who have not finished either the formal elementary or secondary education. Juliet Saley
