Gasataya: Puentevella has no request for authority to sell ‘Manokan’

BACOLOD City Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya said Tuesday that Mayor Monico Puentevella has not yet submitted his request to the City Council for authority to sell the property where the Manokan Country stands.

“We have not received any document," Gasataya said.

The request for authority should come from the Office of the Mayor, he explained.

He said he could not also say whether there is enough number in the City Council to get the needed authority to sell the portion of the reclamation area occupied by the Manokan Country.

“We could not pre-empt it because we have not received any document yet,” he added.

As far as the chances of the request for authority being approved by the City Council, Gasataya said he could not also say what would be the outcome as “this is a matter that has to be discussed in the council.”

The vice mayor said he also respects the Manokan Country vendors, who are against the sale.

“Setting aside the proposal, it is unfair to decide on something I have not yet read. I think the structure needs to be repaired and improved,” he added.

Earlier, SM Prime Holdings Inc. offered to purchase the 13, 783-square meter property at P20, 500 per square meter.

Puentevella said he is bent on selling the Manokan Country despite the opposition from the vendors.(CNC)
