PHILIPPINES’ chess prodigy Wesley So continued to struggle after the fifth round of the 2010 Corus Chess Tournament in the Netherlands.

So (2656), the second youngest player in the tournament, settled for another draw, his fifth, against Pentala Harikrishna (2672) of India.

The Filipino GM used the Queen’s Gambit with the white pieces, which was countered by Harikrishna’s Catalan Opening.

So got a slight advantage of winning the game after the 26th move when he took Hariskrishna’s two rooks but failed to sustain it.

The two eventually settled for a draw after 44 moves.

So’s draw improved his standings to 2.5 points for a tie with Tomi Nyback of Finland at eighth place.

Harikrishna, on the other hand, moved up to the joint second with 3.0 points along with four other GMs.

So was gunning for his first win against the No. 2 GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (2681) of Romania at press time last night.

Nisepeanu has 2.0 points after five rounds.
