Government aims to meet business expectations

BUOYED by their “all-time high” outlook, Malacañang promised the business community Saturday it will take all steps to meet their expectations.

Presidential Communications Development Strategic and Planning Secretary Ricky Carandang said the government is zeroing in on consistent business policies and a level playing field.

“Investors are excited to enter the Philippines. They are looking for opportunities in infrastructure and business process outsourcing. But they want rules that do not change and a level playing field,” he said Saturday.

He added that the Aquino government’s economic team learned of these issues after meeting with investors at a midyear economic briefing last Wednesday.

The economic team included secretaries Cesar Purisima (finance), Florencio Abad (budget), Jose Rene Almendras (energy), Rogelio Singson (public works), and Gregory Domingo (trade).

Carandang said President Benigno Aquino III will also extend the reassurance to investors when he visits the United States later this year.

“When Mr. Aquino goes to the US, he will meet with investors and give that message. We are open for business, we know what you need, we will put them in place and follow them, and you can do business in the Philippines without fear of the rules being changed. We need to send the message to investors here and abroad.” (JMR/Sunnex)
