Gunmen shoot town mayor’s gun slay witness

A WITNESS to the killing of a town mayor survived although wounded in a gun attack by riding in tandem gunmen in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported on Sunday, October 29.

The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Office reported that the incident happened around 10 a.m., Saturday, October 28, at Purok 7 in the village of Lower Tungawan, Tungawan municipality.

The police identified the victim as Ronillo Duhaylungsod, 30, a farmer. He sustained a gunshot wound in the left ear.

The police said was on the way to the house of his father in law when shot by one of two men riding tandem in a motorcycle that suddenly appeared.

The police said that one of the suspect shouted "Allah" as he picked up the empty shell before the sped off towards the direction of Zamboanga City.

Duhaylungsod believed he was shot since he is providing information to the police on the whereabouts of Almain Labain and Hakim Hassan, the primary suspects in the killing of Tungawan Mayor Randy Climaco.

Climaco was killed in an ambush by gunmen on October 12, 2015 hours after he filed certificate of candidacy for vice mayor of Tungawan in the 2016 polls.

Six companions of Climaco, including Vice Mayor Abison Abduraok, sustained injuries due to the attack. (SunStar Philippines)
