THE management of the government-run Co Su Gian Home for the Aged is gearing to improve their facilities and social care by acquiring additional assets and resources to assist the less fortunate, neglected and homeless elderly in the community.

Marilou Loreña, Davao City Social Service Office social worker and manager of the center, told SunStar Davao in an interview that they have requested additional equipment to effectively deliver services for the senior citizens present in the center.

Loreña said they are eyeing to acquire CCTVs to see to it that the security of the patients is monitored and determine the people who are coming in and out from the facility.

She added they have conducted a visit at the home for the aged facility in Tagum City to observe their operations on how they take care of the patients to further improve their services.

Soon, they will put up a pavilion facility where the visitors and activities will be held for a more holistic atmosphere.

In terms of admission, the requirements needed are social case study report, medical certificate to prove that the senior citizen has no contagious diseases and police blotter to determine their eligibility whether he or she is abandoned.

The institution is located in Barangay Cabantian, Davao City and has existed for 23 years now.

It is supported by the City Government of Davao and other non-government organizations to ensure the welfare of the aging populace who were mostly abandoned by their families and were found along the streets.

According to Loreña, the name of the center was named in honor to the mother of the land donor who is a Chinese which was given to the city to help the vulnerable sector of the society.

It has the capacity to cater 80 persons and currently, they have 49 individuals living in the center aging from 60 and the eldest is 87 wherein they were provided with accommodation, meals, laundry and help with their personal care.
