THE Sweet Alert Society Inc., together with the Diabetes Clinic of St. Anthony Mother and Child Hospital and the Zonta International Cebu Chapter, recently organized an outreach program that aims to promote awareness on diabetes.

The activity last Tuesday was also organized in celebration of the World Diabetes Day.

It has been the advocacy of the Sweet Alert Society headed by Russian Federation Honorary Consul Armi Garcia to educate juvenile diabetics and pre-diabetics patients.

During the outreach program, nutritionists Elvira Madronial and Erlinda Binghay discussed the causes of diabetes and how to prevent it.

“Diabetes is growing because of the unhealthy lifestyle of the people, and educating them is a great factor to prevent the increasing number of diabetic patients,” said Garcia.

Drill

Aside from the lectures, patients also participated in the exercise drill and availed themselves of the free blood sugar testing and consultation.

“If someone experiences an early detection of symptoms, they should consult the doctor immediately to prevent any further complications,” said Dr. Mylene Chin, Diabetes Center head.

She added that awareness, early screening and constant check-up are keys to fight diabetes. (Trisha Oliveros, USC Intern)
