JMC, Ateneo bag volley titles

THE Jose Maria College (JMC) and Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) swept their respective 80th Araw ng Davao Inter-School Invitational Volleyball Tournament titles at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center Monday, April 17.

The Alma Fox-coached JMC boys outclassed the University of Immaculate Concepcion, 25-21, 25-13, in the championship match after escaping past Davao City National High School (DCNHS), 25-18, 25-20, in the semi-finals.

DCNHS, for its part, spanked Addu, 25-18, 25-19, to place third in the boys' division.

JMC spiker Jimuel Guial was named most valuable player (MVP).

Addu, meanwhile, recovered from a first set loss to defeat JMC, 21-25, 25-21, 32-30, in their girls titular showdown as Atenean Kyla Cordova romped away with the MVP honors.

DCNHS volleybelles placed third having subdued Addu, 25-18, 25-19, in the event presented by the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office in partnership with the Davao Volleyball Association.

The champion teams in both divisions took home P5,000 while the next three placers received P4,000, P3,000 and P2,000.

Special awards in boys category were Jorbyn Caasi (best server), Joma Crisostomo (best setter), Edward Bisquera (best blocker), Jericho Locabarte (best attacker), Journee Cataag (best scorer) and Alma Fox (best coach) while the girl awardees were Micha Crisanto (best libero), Jessa Erojo (best server and best scorer), Fujimoto Takako (best setter), Kaye Gabayan (best blocker), Katrina Blanco (best attacker) and Kirk Mojica (girl's division best coach).
