THE Jose Maria College (JMC) survived a 25-15, 24-26, 25-20 victory over Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) in the resumption of the 31st Kadayawan sa Dabaw Inter-secondary School Invitational Volleyball Tournament Saturday morning at the Department of Public Works and Highways covered court.

JMC took the first set but Ateneo capitalized on JMC's errors to recover in the second set to even the match. In the decider, however, JMC spiker Journee Cataag unleashed power attacks that shattered Ateneo's defense en-route to snatching the win.

JMC coach Bong Villaber, in a post game interview with SunStar Davao, said that the preparations, the support of the management and the school really paid off since the boys showed good performance.

"Team work and rhythm of the team made us win."

He added that they pulled it off despite lack of exposure as the tournament was their first competition.

He also thanked Pastor Apollo Quiboloy for supporting the JMC volleyball program.

In other matches, the Addu volleybelles beat Assumption College of Davao, 25-13, 25-17, while the Gen. Bible Baptist Church outlasted Holy Cross College of Sasa, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21.

The volleyfest will resume today at the same venue.

The event is organized as part of the Kadayawan Sports Festival. It is presented by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office.
