MOUNT Kanlaon is still under alert level 1, based on Friday’s advisory from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-Negros Island Region.

The advisory stated that the volcano’s seismic monitoring network did not detect any volcanic earthquake in the past 24 hours.

Weak emission of white steam plumes that rose up to 100 meters and drifted southwest was observed. Sulfur dioxide emitted at the active vent average 234 tonnes/day last July 21.

Ground deformation measurements from continuous GPS data as of June 30 indicated slight inflation of the Kanlaon edifice since December 2015.

The OCD reminded the local government units and the public that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited. (TDE)
