LA TRINIDAD Mayor Romeo Salda remains firm of his stand against electronic-bingo (e-bingo) and all forms of gambling in the valley.

Salda said his opposition mostly dwells on the negative impact while acknowledging the different religious sector, women’s sector, and other groups who are continuously airing their sentiments against all forms of gambling in the valley.

“Although e-bingo is legal, if the people opposes, then we should also understand,” Salda said.

The valley has yet to endorse the operation of e-bingo with three proponents eyeing their operation in Benguet’s capital town as the council has yet to decide on the certification of no objection.

Salda said officials should take a cue on the stand of it’s citizens against e-bingo and gambling herd during a public consultation.

Councilor Nestor Fongwan Jr. also expressed his apprehension against all forms of gambling in the municipality.

Fongwan said despite a resolution banning all forms of gambling in the municipality, several illegal gambling joints operate guerilla style.

Myrna Zambrano, principal of San Jose High School meanwhile urged the local government to hear the sentiments of the people who are against illegal gambling.

Zambrano said if town officials approve e-bingo in the valley, student of the next generations will be affected by the gambling operations.
