BAGUIO’s most bemedalled senior athlete Erlinda Lavandia starts her grind as she gears for the upcoming World Masters Athletics Championships Indoor Daegu 2017 to be held in March.

Lavandia is hoping to bring honor to the country as she competes in javelin, discus throw and shotput in the weeklong event to be held at the Daegu Athletics Promotion Center in South Korea.

“Balik training and hopefully maka gold ulit,” Lavandia told Sun*Star Baguio during the Kafagway Sports Awards held Saturday at the Silungan Center.

Lavandia recently won a silver in the women’s javelin throw with 30.42m during the 22nd World Masters Athletics Championships held at the Western Australia Athletics Stadium in Perth last year and won the gold back in the 2013 edition in Brazil.

The retired police officer joined Baguio based athletes who were enshrined Saturday in the 31st edition of the Kafagaway Sports Awards spearheaded by the National Correspondents Club of Baguio.

Leading the awardees is ONE Championship lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang and wushu’s golden warrior Divine Wally.

Folayang and Wally took home the NCCB KSLA’ 2016 “Super Athlete of the year” while Lavandia was cited as “Super Athlete of the Decade”.

Other awardees are international car racing champion Carlos Anton and his son Iñigo and chess GM-elect Haridas Pascua and his father-coach Gilbert. Joining them at podium are retired Baguio Diocese Bishop Carlito Cenzon for his golf tournament for a cause, Baguio Mayor Mauricio Domogan as the sports patron of the decade and Mark Sangiao of Team Lakay.
