LPA now Tropical Depression Salome

THE low pressure area (LPA) east of Catarman, Northern Samar has developed into a tropical depression and was named "Salome," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 8 a.m. weather advisory Thursday.

Pagasa said that as of 7 a.m. Thursday, November 9, the center of Tropical Depression Salome was located at the vicinity of Mondragon, Northern Samar.

The weather bureau recorded its maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center with gustiness of up to 80 kph.

Salome is expected to move west northwest at 25 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) #1 has been raised over Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Romblon, Marinduque, Southern Quezon, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Leyte including Biliran.

Also, areas under TCWS #1 are: Bicol region, rest of Calabarzon, Metro Manila and the eastern section of Central Luzon.

Residents are advised to be vigilant against possible flashfloods and landslides, also, sea travel is risky over areas under TCWS #1.

Salome is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning.

As of 11:45 a.m., the Ninoy Aquino International Airport announced cancelled flights due to the bad weather.
